Major Mom Brag

Frog flew a plane solo today!!!

A novel reason to get the ice cream

Clone is quite determined his foot should heal and not need surgery.  So much so that he is willingly taking the homeopathic remedy I've given him and following the doctor's orders to get in as much calcium as possible.

So for dinner tonight he had a glass of milk and announced he should get to finish the homemade ice cream in the freezer...'I need the calcium in it you know!"

Clone, Clone, Clone...

Today I took Clone to the doctor about his foot. Never one to do anything simply, Clone has once again been true to form.  So much so that while we were awaiting the doctor's verdict on whether he would need surgery for his broken foot, I was laughing.

The good news is he doesn't need surgery now. The bad news, he still might need it.  We will know next Friday.

If he needs it, of course its not going to be simple. He will need to schedule the surgery, head back to school later than he planned and report for RA duty late.  Then of course there's the matter of transferring his insurance and specialist referral and finding a new doctor.

So we are praying that Clone acts out of the norm and learns he does not need surgery when we go next week.

The Sinister Side of Swan

or perhaps I should say the sinister side of Swan's car.  I'm not sure who is at fault here...Swan or the car..but in any case, her car does NOT like me.

A few days ago I borrowed it and tried to wash the windshields. No washer fluid came out when I tried.  I went to Walmart and bought a new bottle for her.  MWC goes to teach her how to fill it, and its filled up to the brim.  She tries to wash her windshield and gets is sparkly clean.

Fast forward a few days, she takes my van with the little girls to VBS so I can go later.  I go to start her car, nothing.  Will not start.  I drive Clone's car.  She gets home from VBS, puts the key in, and up it starts!

Few hours later, we go to Walmart in her car. She is driving.  We get home, my door will not open!  Seriously!

I refused to let her help me though and win the battle of the door.

So far, Swan's Car, 2  Me, 1!

The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

I could easily refer to Friday as The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.  I might even be justified by a human perspective.  Emotionally, I'm still not totally recovered but I'm getting there.

However, spiritually, I am thankful.  I do not know why Frog got stung by bees and reacted so badly I had to call 911.   Seeing the violent shaking resulting from the epipen shot he received in the ambulance still haunts me as do the nurses words, "you called just in time!"  I do not know why this happened the day he left for solo school to learn to be a pilot.

Because of the drugs, he was not able to drive so I took him the 3 hours to get there once he was released from the ER.  We got him packed up, filled his prescriptions for medication he could take and still fly, and headed out the door.  He arrived an hour late but he did make it for his first evening of classes.   I dropped him off and the adrenaline which had kept me going all day crashed and the tears started falling.  I called MWC and told him I was not going to be able to drive the 3 hours home and would be home in the morning.  I checked into a hotel.

I do not know why while I was peacefully and drowsily watching a movie, MWC called to tell me that Clone had probably broken his foot and they were on their way to the ER.

2 boys and 2 ER runs in one day. One life threatening and the other while I'm too far away to do anything about it.  Emotionally distressing to stay the least.

I do not know why these things both happened on the same day or even why they happened at all.  However, I do know that the Lord is sovereign over all things and He has a purpose and a plan for them.  I also know that even amidst the drama of the day,  I had a peace that can only be attributed to the Lord.  This is a HUGE sign of growth for me and for that I am very thankful.

Modern Day Kids

Overheard at my house:

Clone:  I don't know how I'm going to shower with this splint on my foot.

Sweetness:  Google it!

Retirement plans?

Making a decision regarding retirement for MWC is just far enough away to start thinking about possibilities for a new career.

Sunshine and Sweetness chimed in today with their dreams and desires.

"Daddy should retire and get a job at Maggie Moos!"

"No! He should work at Rita's!"

Frog has a penchant for wanting the newest and most fangled novelties on the market. (Hmm, kinda reminds me of a boy I grew up with, little brother!)

So, now that cross country season is starting again and he's in the market for new shoes, it's no surprise that he came across Vibram Five Finger shoes and knew he MUST have them.

He studied them, mapped out his strategy and approached me armed and ready with his request. (apparently, I'm the go to parent when you want something. I'm "easier" than MWC in such matters!)

Typically I would say no first, he'd wear me down, and I'd eventually say yes. This time, I was pretty impressed with what he was showing me, knew he needed new shoes anyway so they might as well be these and said yes without the traditional mother/son shopping dance.

I guess I was a little too easy for him and he missed the dance. Or he just really loves his brother. Or a little of both. Because not long after I said I would take him for a pair, he told me I should consider buying some for Clone as well. Clone has inherited my knee issues but has started running and Frog thought these would help him too. Normally, Clone is responsible for his own shoes and clothes purchases, but Frog thought I should make an exception.

Swan, without realizing Frog was already on the campaign, apparently has the same affection for her big brother and presented the same case on Clone's behalf.

So, now I have two sons sporting the funniest looking shoes ever but both LOVE them.

They are happy. I am happy too. Not just because I've been able to bless my boys with things they love, but even more importantly, seeing the good friends my older children have become and seeing how they want to help each other out.

Red Alert! Red Alert! Inspection!

Every other Friday I have the luxury of a cleaning service coming in. Every other Thursday, we have the whirlwind straighten and pickup preparation frenzy for the cleaning service.

This week was no different. Sweetness and Sunshine wanted to play with the IPAD. I took full advantage of the situation and told them once their room was completely ready for the maids, they could play.

They eagerly went to do their room and worked quite quickly.

"We're ready Mommy" chorused two happy little girls as they came into the den looking for the IPAD.

"Okay, I'll come check in a minute. I'm going to check under your beds and in your closet when I check"

Two little girls disappeared faster than the blink of an eye.

Thiry minutes later, they came back. "We're ready!" they chimed again.

"Alright, did you remember I'm checking your beds and closet?"

"Mommy! I didn't hear you say closet!!" whined one of them.

Back upstairs they went.

Cape May

MWC and I celebrated our 25th anniversary with a wonderful getaway to Cape May, NJ. We stayed at an awesome bed and breakfast, enjoyed relaxing days together and ate some of the best food ever...a little too good according to my scale. sigh. It was all worth it though!

Chip and Barbara are the awesome hosts at this bed and breakfast

Our attic hideaway room was sweet

The front porch where we enjoyed reading, chatting with the other guests and the yummy afternoon refreshments Barbara served each day.

Happy 4th of July!

You have to love a nation that celebrates its independence every July 4, not with a parade of guns, tanks, and soldiers who file by the White House in a show of strength and muscle, but with family picnics where kids throw Frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy, and the flies die from happiness. You may think you have overeaten, but it is patriotism. ~Erma Bombeck
