I'm sensing a theme these days...

and if I were a paranoid person, I'd think England hates me.
This came in the mail today...its a brochure for a local theater.

I will not be attending.

Yet another thing I thought I'd never say

Once again I have surprised myself.  I, who gets very anxious at high heights or seeing my children in high places, am genuinely excited and actually used the word "awesome!" in response to the knowledge that Frog will be spending part of his summer learning to jump out of perfectly good airplanes.

It has been his dream all year to be able to do this during a summer session at USAFA, and while I can't help but be a mom and be concerned about it, I also can't help but be a mom who rejoices to see her child get the opportunity to pursue his heart's desire.

So rejoice with me over his happiness...and pass the Clairol..I sense even more gray hairs coming on!

Life as a Mrs. White Coat

Conversation at dinner last night:

MWC: I filled in the biggest rat hole so hopefully they won't get through that one anymore. I put both mousetraps next to the smaller hole that they use so if they come in that way, maybe we can catch them there.

Me:  Well I think that is more likely to just set the traps off as they run by and not catch them.  They only catch them if they are actually positioned to eat the peanut butter.

MWC:  Well that obviously hasn't been very effective since we've only caught one.  This way, the traps will snap at them when they try to come through and hopefully be a negative reinforcement to them for coming that way.

This is the same husband who years ago on an anniversary trip, as we sat beside a lovely, tranquil duck pond chatting, trained the ducks to tap his foot 3 times to get a morsel of bread.

So for those who have been concerned that  MWC's just want to analyze everyone they meet, rest assured that unless you're a wild animal needing some experimental behavioral training, you're safe to just relax and chat with my MWC and are not subject to his professional interests.

Apparently rats do read

So upon posting yesterday's open letter to General Fat Rat, a friend commented, Silly ma'am fat rats can't read.

I am afraid that they must and have to admit a setback in the battle.  There is no other explanation why after weeks of no indication of any return of the barracks for my little army of garden rats, I discovered 3 today!  I am afraid the General is more proud and vindictive than I have given him credit for, and has shamed me and scored a victory in our ongoing conflict.

Anyone who knows me can tell you though, I don't lose easily, so this setback is only temporary.  I have added to my stockpiles of steel wool which is necessary for the closure of the barracks AND I have added 2 heavy duty rat traps to my arsenal of weapons of Rat Warfare.

I am thankful for a Knight in Shining Armor on my side of the battle who is willing to take charge of these new weapons.

Score one for the general, but this war is far from over and will only end when I am victorious!

An Open Letter to General Fat Rat

Dear Sir,

(I call you Sir to convey my respect to a worthy opponent yet no respect for you as a individual of any decent character.)

I wish to commend you for knowing when its time to retreat and have not attempted to rebuild your lodgings on our property upon our destruction of them.  It is a wise leader who knows when he has suffered one defeat.

I am not content for you to just not lodge on my property, I would like to completely deny you access to it. However, I too am a wise ruler of my domain and know when certain things are just not enforceable.  Be forewarned though, that does not mean I will not continue to do so with much determination.

Being that you are such a worthy opponent, I think it only fair to warn you, your recent strategy is NOT going to work.  Popping under the fence to bathe yourself in my sight and then returning immediately to the other side of the fence, will in no way convince or persuade me that you are a clean animal with sanitary habits.  I know what kind of varmint you really are, and nothing you can do will change my opinion.

Moreover, I have noticed that you have circumvented my blocking of your "run" along my fence line.  I can not cut down the tree that you now use to access your run and get around the blockades I have put up, however, now that the success of my current blockades has been confirmed, I will call in some of my smaller troops and have them install new ones in the areas that I am not able to reach myself.  Do not be surprised to discover your run completely closed down before this week is out.

Knowing that your main bases are to my south and east and out of my jurisdiction, I have called in foreign allies, aka the Public Health Inspectors, and they will be visiting you soon to inspect your dwellings.  I am hopeful of a change of tide in this little war of ours.

You have been a worthy opponent, but I shall not miss our battles.

Sincerely,
MAAM on a Mission
