The day we didn't make it to the zoo

Last week we made plans to meet some friends at the National Zoo. We never did make it. Apparently every other family with children on spring break had the same brilliant idea. After driving 2 hours to get there, we came to a full, and closed parking lot and no parking for blocks around. We decided to go to The Mall instead.
After driving another hour to get from the zoo back to the Mall, we finally found a parking garage. We were starving by them so we bought our first ever hot dogs from a street vendor and had a little picnic in a park.We at least got to see some animals. One which was this mama duck busily building up her nest and caring for her eggs.

The Cherry Blossoms were spectacular and it was a gorgeous spring day.

After walking around the American History museum we enjoyed just some play in the grass and visit time. And we ate ice cream too of course.

Our friends walked us back to the car. Sunshine and her "newly refound" friend - they were babies together before we knew them - walked the whole way, which was quite a distance, holding hands.
